Programmes
Lady floating in one of the thermal pools outside of Tamina Health Center at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz during a Recharge Program

A 3- or 5-night spa and wellbeing program. A restoration without intensive medical treatments, but with the medical supervision of Tamina Health Centre. The Recharge program is pure wellbeing: no diagnostic testing, no medical consultations. It focused entirely on deep relaxation, nervous system recovery, and renewal.

Treatments have been selected for their restorative depth: aroma mind massage, chakra massage, singing bowl massage, cellular recreation facial, Lomi Lomi Nui (Hawaiian full-body massage), Haki Purna treatment, yoga, and mindfulness sessions. The combination of thermal bathing in the Hotel Thermal SPA and these treatments creates a genuinely profound rest.

It's also an ideal program for a guest accompanying a partner on a longer medical stay.

01

The property

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is one of Europe's most complete luxury wellness destinations: a five-star resort built around a thermal spring discovered in 1242, nestled in the Rhine Valley of Eastern Switzerland, an hour from Zurich.

The resort spans 3 interconnected hotels (Grand Hotel Quellenhof, Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz, and Palais Ragaz), totalling 247 rooms and suites. There are also buildings for the spa and the medical area, and an entire building dedicated to Clinic Bad Ragaz, a full rehabilitation clinic with luxury hospitality standards.

More on the property

It is the only hotel in Europe with six Michelin stars: Memories (3 stars) and verve by sven (1 star) by Chef Sven Wassmer, and IGNIV by Andreas Caminada (2 stars). With 75 Gault-Millau points, an 18-hole and 9-hole golf course which happen to be one of the finest in Switzerland, a casino (yes, a casino adjacent to a wellness destination, I know!), , one of the best kids clubs I've every seen, and two thermal spa complexes spanning over 13 000 sqm (huge! and including one for kids and their family), the breadth of what is offered here is genuinely unmatched, in Switzerland or anywhere else.

02

The medical approach

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz operates on an integrative medicine approach. It all starts from in-depth medical assessment, nutrition is personalised and core to the therapy obviously, there are a wide, really wide range of therapies, as well as movement sessions and holistic wellbeing treatments. The approach is genuinely medical, and Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is the only place of that kind which only employs Swiss doctors. Dr. Alexandra Dopplinger is the Chief Medical Officer and she has an amazing team of senior physicians and practitioners (TCM, physiotherapists, etc.).

03

The thermal water

The spring at the heart of Grand Resort Bad Ragaz was discovered in 1242 in the Tamina Gorge, and has been used therapeutically for nearly 800 years. The water emerges naturally at 36.5°C (yes, body temperature!) and flows directly into all 13 indoor and outdoor pools across both spa complexes, without artificial heating or chemical treatment.

04

Tamina Health Center

At the heart of the health and longevity offer is the Tamina Health Center: a 2500 sqm medical facility housing one of Europe's leading preventive medicine and nutrition centres, with its own lab, certified as a Swiss Olympic Medical Center. Its programs cover everything, from Detox to Longevity. As you would expect, it includes advanced health diagnostics and check-ups, completely personalised diet and evidence-based nutrition, as well as a huge range of therapies and wellbeing treatments in a setting of rare beauty and comfort.

Questions we are asked

Atmosphere, prices, alternatives

What are the clients like at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz?

There is so much space for the leisure part at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, that it actually doesn't feel like a medical spa, rather like a timeless luxury hotel, with a completely seamless experience, a lot of space, serenity. The guests who come for leisure and those who come for their health are all friendly, respectful, and more open to discussing and meeting new people than in a typical luxury resort. The clientele is very upscale and international. You see guests of all generations, including some senior guests, who genuinely care for their health and are wonderfully functional - a good proof that the longevity approach and the thermal waters at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz work very well!

What do the programs include?

Each program begins with an in-depth diagnostic phase, tailoring the treatment plan depending on the biomarkers, health objectives, and lifestyle. Nutrition plays a central role: a dedicated nutritionist designs the menus. You may be tempted to try all the restaurants of Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, but for your program, the meals are prepared by the Michelin-starred kitchen at Verve by Sven.

What are the alternatives to Grand Resort Bad Ragaz?

The honest answer is: no other wellness destination offers to many different features in one single place, alongside this depth of medical excellence. If we look at the medical excellence, Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is relatively on par with the most medical resorts of neighbouring countries: Lanserhof or VIVAMAYR for example. When you look at Bad Ragaz from the thermal waters angle, then you may say that Palazzo Fiuggi in Italy could be an alternative, all the more than it also offers menus designed by a Michelin-starred chef (but the restaurant at Palazzo Fiuggi is not a Michelin-starred one). When we look at the level of luxury of the hospitality, Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, is relatively similar to Lanserhof (although bigger), Chenot Palace Weggis or ZEM Wellness Clinic. Very very high standards. When we look at the activities and the fun this resort is for non-wellness guests, then we must compare Grand Resort Bad Ragaz with places which offer truly amazing leisure activities, such as Evian Resort, One&Only Portonovi, Amanpuri, Canyon Ranch ... but we must then agree that the F&B at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz surpasses anything competition does.

What makes Grand Resort Bad Ragaz different from other luxury wellness resorts?

The combination of scale, medical depth, and culinary excellence here is genuinely rare. Few addresses bring together six Michelin stars, a Swiss Olympic Medical Center, 13 thermal pools, two golf courses, and a casino — all within one property. The Tamina Health Center operates at a level of diagnostic sophistication normally found in standalone clinics, but fully integrated into a luxury resort experience. Guests come for the programmes and stay for everything else.

How medical are the programmes at the Tamina Health Center?

Very. The Longevity and Weight Loss programmes involve senior physician consultations, comprehensive laboratory analysis, metabolic rate testing (spiroergometry), HRV assessment, body composition and movement analysis. A nutritionist provides dedicated support throughout. The Detox programme includes dental cleansing and a final medical report. This is preventive medicine at a serious clinical level — not spa wellness dressed up in medical language.

Are programme prices separate from accommodation?

Yes. Programme prices are fixed and cover all medical consultations, diagnostic tests, treatments, and full-board dining at verve by sven. Programmes range from CHF 1,250 (Recharge, 3 nights) to CHF 16,900 (Longevity, 14 nights). Accommodation is priced separately and dynamically — contact us for a personalised quote combining programme and room.

What is the thermal water at Bad Ragaz?

The spring at the heart of Grand Resort Bad Ragaz was discovered in 1242 in the Tamina Gorge by monks from the Pfäfers Monastery, who recognised its healing properties. The water emerges naturally at 36.5°C — human body temperature — and flows directly into all 13 pools across both spa complexes without artificial heating, cooling, or chemical treatment. It has been used therapeutically for nearly 800 years.

Is Grand Resort Bad Ragaz suitable for a mixed group — some wanting a programme, others a holiday?

It is one of the best addresses in the world for exactly this. One guest can follow an intensive medically supervised programme while companions enjoy golf, the casino, spa days, fine dining across seven restaurants, or excursions into the Alps and the four-country region (Liechtenstein, Austria, and Germany are all within an hour). The Kids Club and 500 sqm Kids SPA make it equally well-suited for families travelling with children.

Does Bad Ragaz offer Traditional Chinese Medicine?

The Tamina Health Center includes a dedicated Chinese Medicine department, with amazing practitioners trained in China. The level of TCM expertise is very profound. The wellbeing approach at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz blends Eastern and Western therapies: Chi Nei Tsang, Haki Purna, lymphatic drainage, infrared sauna, pressotherapy, cupping. There are also a number of structured movement sessions, individual or in group: personal training, outdoor sessions, yoga, and mental coaching. The goal is not simply to recover, but to leave with a clear understanding of one's health status and a concrete plan for sustained long-term wellbeing.

What are the nationalities of the guests?

The resort's primary market is local, so the majority of guests are Swiss, followed by the USA, then Germany and other EU countries. It is also well known among prominent families from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf (particularly in July–August) and from India. Because the resort operates strictly in the luxury segment, guest numbers are naturally very limited, which keeps the atmosphere highly exclusive, private and quiet at all times. Guest identities are never shared, out of respect for privacy.

How private is the medical experience ? Can treatments be kept away from public hotel areas?

The hotels, restaurants, Tamina Health Center and spa centers are all interconnected by covered galleries. Tests and controls take place in the Tamina Health Center, medical consultations in the physicians’ offices, and wellness/spa treatments in the spa centers. Treatments cannot be performed in the hotel room, but room service for meals can be arranged on request.

Which accommodation is the quietest and most private?

The SPA Suites Tower is the most quiet and private part of the resort. It has its own dedicated reception and butler service, and entry is restricted exclusively to guests staying in that wing.

What's included with a stay?

Breakfast at Verve by Sven (1 Michelin star); access to the Helenabad Spa (6,000+ sqm) and the Tamina Therme Spa (7,000+ sqm); a 24/7 fitness center; and transfers between Bad Ragaz railway station and the resort (1 km away).

Can the thermal baths be used privately?

Yes — the historical Helenabad pool can be privatised for CHF 1,000 per hour, after 20:00.

What are the different hotels like?

The Grand Hotel Quellenhof is a 5-star property opened in 1869 in Belle Époque style, recently renovated. Rooms range from Junior Suites Deluxe (~50 sqm) up to Grand Suites (~100 sqm, with separated living room and bedroom); a separate SPA Suites Tower offers the most private wing.

What Healthy Living Programmes are offered, and are they flexible?

Programmes include Longevity, Detox (anti-inflammatory focus, gut microbiome) and Weight Loss (metabolism and hormone balance), among others. All Healthy Living Programmes are flexible and can be adapted — and combined — to a guest’s needs.

Is the Longevity programme only for older guests?

No. While it suits ageing and recovery goals, the diagnostic backbone (DXA, labs, CGM, sleep analysis, TCM, HBOT) can anchor a customised protocol for younger guests too: for example blending Detox and Weight Loss aims while keeping the Longevity diagnostics.
