Overview
Most of what the wellness industry files under mental health is stress relief. A massage, a week without a phone, a therapist available if you ask. That helps a tired person and does nothing at all for a person who is ill.
The programmes on this page are the ones that treat rather than soothe. They are staffed by psychiatrists and psychotherapists, they supervise withdrawal where withdrawal is needed, and they take on depression, trauma, addiction, eating disorders and the kind of burnout that has stopped responding to time off. Several are residential and run for weeks rather than days.
The honest limit: a stay does not finish the work. Even a six week residential admission is the start of a course of treatment that continues at home, and the clinics that are worth their fee will say so before you book. Anyone promising a cure in a week is selling a holiday.
Two practical notes. None of these places is emergency care, and if someone is in immediate danger the answer is a hospital or the local emergency number, not an admission that takes days to arrange. And prices here are unlike the rest of the catalogue: the residential clinics bill by the week, with minimum stays of a month, so read a weekly rate as a rate and not as the price of a stay.
