The Strength Recovery Clinic, in detail

01
The property
The Strength Recovery Clinic runs a four day retreat at a private château near Poitiers, in the Deux-Sèvres countryside of western France. Four guests at a time, three nights, Wednesday to Saturday. Jean, the osteopath who runs the clinic in London, delivers every part of the clinical work himself.
It is built for persistent pain. The kind that has lasted months, keeps coming back, and has already been through physiotherapy or a chiropractor without settling. It also takes people with ongoing fatigue whose tests keep coming back normal. You are assessed on the day you arrive, for 60 to 90 minutes, and treated one to one every day after that.
More on the property
The château has stone towers, a moat, a heated pool and a jacuzzi, and every guest gets a private bedroom with an en suite bathroom. Meals are cooked to an anti-inflammatory brief from the markets of western France and everyone eats at the same table. EUR 1,995 per person covers the three nights, the treatment, the food and the transfers from Poitiers.

02
How the four days work
The assessment comes first, on the day you arrive. It runs 60 to 90 minutes and does two things at once: an osteopathic examination of how you move, and a functional medicine history covering sleep, stress, digestion and what you eat. Jean works from the position that persistent pain sits where physical dysfunction, unresolved inflammation, a nervous system stuck on alert and life history meet. The assessment is where he works out which of those is doing the most in your case.
From there the days have a shape. Breakfast at eight, one to one treatment at nine, functional medicine teaching at eleven. Lunch and a rest, then group movement and rehabilitation at three, programmed for each person even though the four of you do it together. Breathing and nervous system work at five, a break, and dinner at half past seven. Evenings are yours, by the fire, in the pool or walking the grounds.
More on how the four days work
The hands on work is osteopathy and sports massage. The movement work is rehabilitation and strength and conditioning, set at what your body can do that day, so you do not need to arrive fit. What travels home with you is the teaching: what inflammation is doing, how to read your own symptoms, what to change and in what order.
Jean Cock is registered with the General Osteopathic Council in the UK, number 10993, which anyone can look up on the public register. He holds an Integrated Master of Osteopathy, a BSc in Sports Science and the A-CFMP functional medicine qualification from the Kresser Institute in California, plus level 3 qualifications in personal training and sports massage. His London practice is at 204 Fulham Road in Chelsea, with home visits across the city, and this retreat is the residential version of that work.
You leave with a written recovery strategy and three online follow up calls, spread across the six months after the retreat. The calls exist so the plan gets adjusted as your symptoms change.

03
The food
All meals are cooked to a clinical anti-inflammatory brief, using seasonal produce from the markets of western France. Protein at every meal, Atlantic oily fish, local vegetables, olive and walnut oils, and nothing refined.
Everyone eats at the same table at the same three times. Dinner is at half past seven and breakfast at eight, which leaves a twelve hour overnight fast. That gap is part of the protocol.
More on the food
No alcohol is served. Allergies and intolerances are worked around (please inform us so we can arrange that with the retreat leader Jean).

04
The château
The retreat takes place at a private château estate at La Ferrière-en-Parthenay, in the Deux-Sèvres. Stone towers, a moat, wisteria across the gardens, and a beamed great room where the group sessions happen. There is a heated swimming pool, a jacuzzi and parkland to walk in.
There are four guest bedrooms and never more than four guests, so everyone has their own with an en suite bathroom. Four is the point of the format. The treatments are genuinely one to one, and the movement sessions are written for each person even though the group does them together.
More on the château
Poitiers is 40 minutes away by road, Nantes an hour and a half and Bordeaux two hours. Return transfers from Poitiers, the airport or the TGV station, are included and timed to your actual arrival. Collection from Nantes or Bordeaux can be arranged (not guaranteed), so tell us where you are flying into.

Atmosphere, prices, alternatives
Atmosphere and retreat participants
Four guests in a château in the French countryside, eating at one table and doing the same sessions. It draws adults who have carried pain for months or years and have already been through physiotherapy or a chiropractor. Days are quiet and structured until half past seven in the evening. After that nothing is planned and people sit by the fire, swim, or walk the parkland.
What makes it different
The whole health program is delivered by one person and you see him every day. Jean is a GOsC registered osteopath who also holds a functional medicine qualification, so the hands on treatment and the inflammation and nutrition work come from the same head. Four guests is the cap. The three follow up calls over six months mean the plan gets adjusted once you are home and back at work.
What it costs
EUR 1,995 per person for the four days and three nights, with everything included except flights, travel insurance and any optional laboratory testing. Two people sharing a room pay EUR 1,895 each. A 25% deposit holds the place and the balance falls due 30 days before arrival. Travel insurance is required.
What else to consider
If you want doctors, diagnostics and blood work alongside the hands on treatment, a medical clinic such as Park Igls or Buff Medical Resort answers that question and runs a week at a time. If four days feels short for something you have carried for years, tell us and we will look at a longer stay with you.
Where exactly is the retreat?
At a private château at La Ferrière-en-Parthenay, in the Deux-Sèvres in western France. Poitiers is 40 minutes away by road.

Do I need to be fit to come?
No. The physical work is set at what your body can do on the day.
Can I come with my partner?
Yes. Two people sharing one room pay EUR 1,895 each.
What happens if I have a flare up before I travel?
Your place moves to a future date at no charge.
Can we ask for a date that is not listed?
