Park Igls, in detail

01

The property

The Igls plateau sits above Innsbruck at the foot of the Patscherkofel, in the Austrian Tyrol, and it has been a health address since 1905, when a sanatorium opened on the site. Park Igls is what that building became, and one of the reference addresses for Modern Mayr Medicine, the evolution of F.X. Mayr therapy that treats the gut as the starting point for whole body health.

The house has been in the same family since 1959. Gesundheitszentrum Igls GmbH was founded in 1993 and today employs around 95 people, including four resident Mayr physicians and two clinical psychologists. The resort is a member of the International Society of Mayr Physicians and works with Innsbruck University Hospital for advanced diagnostics.

More on the property

A stay is built on four pillars: Modern Mayr Medicine, nutrition, exercise and regeneration. The rhythm is deliberately quiet: bitter water at six, aqua gymnastics, thoroughly chewed meals, medical appointments, treatments, an evening lecture and an early night.

You do not choose your diet here. A Mayr doctor examines you on arrival and assigns one of eight stages, and stage 0 is herbal tea, orange juice, crispbread and vegetable broth. The aim is to repair the gut, and that takes a few days of plain food chewed thoroughly. It is worth knowing before you arrive.

The resort was named the world’s best detox spa by The Times in its World’s 50 Best Spas 2025, and won Best Wellness Programme at the 2026 Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence.

FX Mayr medicine

Modern Mayr Medicine builds on Franz Xaver Mayr’s finding that a healthy gut is the solution to many medical problems. It rests on six therapeutic principles: cleansing, rest, education, substitution, exercise and self discovery.

In practice that means intestinal cleansing with Epsom salts and generous hydration, a diet stage set by the doctor, retraining how you eat through slow and thorough chewing, targeted substitution of vitamins, minerals and trace elements, daily guided movement, and medical plus psychological counselling. Manual abdominal treatment by the doctor is the signature hands on therapy and recurs through every programme.

The medical department offers laboratory work, ultrasound, cardiology, neural therapy, acupuncture, IHHT cell training, intravenous protocols and psychological coaching, with further investigations available through Innsbruck University Hospital.

Mayr Cuisine

Meals follow Modern Mayr Cuisine, described by the house as gourmet fasting: alkaline rich, gently prepared to preserve vitamins, built on local organic produce, seasoned with herbs and spices rather than salt, and served with spring water, herbal teas and vegetable broths. The head chef is Markus Sorg.

The doctor assigns one of eight dietary stages at the initial examination, from stage 0 (fasting on herbal tea, orange juice, crispbread and alkaline vegetable broth) through the traditional Mayr diet with added protein, to stage 7, the Mayr Energy Diet with full balanced meals from breakfast to dinner. Portions shrink through the day and there is no snacking between meals.

More on mayr cuisine

The kitchen caters for intolerances, allergies and special dietary requirements, including vegan and vegetarian. The room rate includes breakfast; lunch and dinner come with the basic services that are part of every programme.

Facilities

The spa has a heated indoor pool that opens onto the garden, a Finnish sauna at 85 to 90 degrees, an organic sauna at 60 degrees, a textile sauna, a steam bath, an infrared cabin and Kneipp water therapy stations indoors and, in summer, outdoors in the park. Quiet zones, meditation rooms and a loggia with reading nooks run through the house.

The panoramic gym sits on the top floor with outdoor decking and views to the Karwendel range, and mixes cardio and strength equipment with kybun mats, sling trainers, bellicon trampolines and Therabands. Up to 40 hours of activities are offered each week.

More on facilities

The nature park was enlarged in 2023 and now covers the equivalent of six and a half tennis courts, with mixed woodland, walking paths, a herb garden, an outdoor Kneipp area, a putting green and a secret garden with a drinking fountain and a balance training trail. There are three dining areas plus a summer terrace, a boutique, a tea bar, a library, a lounge with an open fireplace and a lecture room. e-bikes are free to borrow in summer.

Questions we are asked

Atmosphere, prices, alternatives

How much does Park Igls cost?

Park Igls prices a stay in two parts: the programme and the room. The programme is per person and excludes accommodation. A one week Detox Classic, the usual introduction to the house, is EUR 2,120 per person, and the four night Detox Short Break is EUR 1,318. The more medical programmes run higher: Detox Intensive EUR 2,816, De-Stress EUR 2,846, Neuro Fit EUR 3,206, Immune Booster EUR 3,351, Fit not Fatigue EUR 3,795 and the full screening Detox Medical Check EUR 4,723, all for one week. Rooms are charged per person per day including breakfast, from EUR 210 in a shared standard double and EUR 217 in a standard single, up to EUR 637 in a deluxe plus suite. The 110 sqm Park Igls Suite is EUR 1,460 per suite per day for up to five people. Sole use of a double or a suite carries a surcharge, from EUR 84 per day. So a solo guest doing Detox Classic for a week in a standard single is about EUR 3,639, and two people sharing a standard double are about EUR 5,710. Prices are in euros including all taxes and fees, and the room rate drops by 5 percent from two weeks and 10 percent from three weeks. Mayr medication and any diagnostics beyond the programme are extra.

What are the alternatives to Park Igls?

Park Igls sits in the small group of serious Modern Mayr clinics. The closest comparisons are Lanserhof Lans, its neighbour on the same Tyrolean plateau, and the larger Lanserhof Tegernsee and Lanserhof Sylt in Germany. Mayrlife and VIVAMAYR Maria Wörth are the other Austrian references, and Buff Medical Resort and Park Am See are further options in the Mayr family. Outside Mayr medicine, guests weighing up a gut led detox with real medical depth often also look at Chenot Palace Weggis in Switzerland, ZEM Wellness Clinic in Spain, or Palazzo Fiuggi in Italy.

Do I have to choose my programme before I arrive?

For most programmes, no. The cure begins with an initial examination by an F.X. Mayr doctor, who sets your dietary stage and prescribes the therapies, so the final decision is made on site. Detox Intensive and Detox Medical Check are the exceptions and are booked in advance so the treatment slots can be reserved.

How long should I stay?

Park Igls recommends a minimum of ten to fourteen days, and says three weeks achieves the best results. A single week produces a noticeable improvement, and the shortest packaged product is the four night Detox Short Break. For Detox Intensive the house recommends a minimum of two weeks.

What is included in the room rate?

The room rate is per person per day and includes breakfast, plus either a space in the underground car park or a transfer from and to Innsbruck airport or railway station. Lunch and dinner, the exercise programme and the treatments come with the programme, not the room.

What does a typical day look like?

Bitter water on an empty stomach at 06:00, aqua gymnastics at 07:00, breakfast at 08:00 with each mouthful chewed at least thirty times, the appointment with the Mayr doctor at 09:00, Kneipp water therapy at 10:00, morning broth at 11:00, a treatment at midday, lunch at 13:00, free time in the park or at the pool from 15:00, a group coaching workshop at 17:00, dinner at 18:00, an evening lecture at 19:30 and lights out around 21:00.

Is the resort adults only?

Yes. Guests must be aged 16 and above. The entire resort is smoke free, indoors and on balconies and terraces, with smoking permitted only in the park pavilion.

Will my health insurance contribute?

Private health insurers normally cover at least part of the cost. Park Igls advises bringing a prescription from your family doctor and issues an invoice you can submit to your insurer.
