Bürgenstock Resort sits on a mountain ridge 500 metres above Lake Lucerne, surrounded by 60 hectares of Alpine parkland. Panoramic views of Pilatus, Rigi and the lake stretch from every vantage point.
The resort brings together four hotels, twelve restaurants and two award-winning spas. For wellness guests, the Waldhotel is the natural choice. Its 137 rooms are built into the hillside with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Alps. The Waldhotel Health & Medical Centre offers diagnostics, check-ups and specialist consultations alongside a full menu of spa and body treatments.
Rather than fixed multi-day programs, Bürgenstock lets guests build their own wellness stay. You choose from an extensive list of treatments, medical diagnostics and spa experiences. This flexibility suits travellers who want clinical depth without a rigid schedule.
The Bürgenstock Alpine Spa covers 10,000 square metres and ranks among Europe's largest hotel spas. Five pools include the iconic infinity pool suspended above the lake. Saunas, a hammam, salt grotto, cold plunge pools and a floating saline pool complete the thermal circuit.
The property
What is the wellness approach at Bürgenstock?
Bürgenstock takes a treatment-based approach to wellness. There are no fixed programs. Instead, guests work with the resort's medical and spa teams to select the treatments, diagnostics and experiences that fit their goals.
The Waldhotel Health & Medical Centre provides health screenings, blood panels, body composition analysis and specialist consultations. This clinical foundation helps guests make informed choices about which treatments to book during their stay.
The spa menu spans deep-tissue bodywork, lymphatic drainage, detox wraps, cryotherapy and advanced facials. Partner brands include Dr Burgener Switzerland, 111SKIN, AMRA, KOS Paris and Swissline. Three self-guided Hydrothermal circuits (Relax, Regenerate, Activate) use vitality pools, saunas, cold plunges and Kneipp walks.
Beyond the spas, the resort encourages active recovery. Forest trails, yoga classes, a 9-hole Alpine golf course and tennis courts give guests varied ways to move each day.
What do you eat during your stay at Bürgenstock?
Twelve restaurants and bars cover a wide culinary range. Verbena at the Waldhotel serves feel-good dishes made with regional Swiss produce. Spices Kitchen brings pan-Asian flavours with 16 Gault & Millau points. Oak Grill follows a farm-to-table approach over wood fire.
Lighter options are available at the Waldhotel breakfast buffet. Parisa offers Persian cuisine. Osteria Alpina Terrazza serves Italian dishes in an Alpine meadow setting. Restaurant Taverne provides a traditional Swiss experience.
What are the facilities like at Bürgenstock?
The Alpine Spa covers 10,000 square metres with five pools, four saunas, a hammam, salt grotto, floating saline pool and thirteen treatment rooms. The Waldhotel Spa adds its own pools, saunas, relaxation terraces and gym.
Leisure facilities include three tennis courts, a 9-hole golf course, a cliff walk and Europe's highest outdoor elevator. Arrival by catamaran plus vintage funicular, helicopter, or limousine from Zurich (45 minutes).

Frequently asked questions
Where is Bürgenstock Resort located?
The resort sits on a mountain ridge 500 metres above Lake Lucerne in Central Switzerland. Zurich Airport is about 90 minutes by car or 45 minutes by helicopter. The most scenic arrival is by catamaran across the lake followed by a vintage funicular up the mountain. Lucerne city centre is 25 minutes away by car.
What wellness facilities does Bürgenstock offer?
There are two spas. The Bürgenstock Alpine Spa covers 10,000 square metres with five pools, four saunas, a hammam, salt grotto, floating saline pool and thirteen treatment rooms. The Waldhotel Spa is smaller and more intimate, with its own pools, saunas and treatment rooms. Both offer Hydrothermal circuits and a range of facial and body treatments.
What are the Hydrothermal circuits?
Three self-guided bathing circuits developed by the resort's wellness team. Relax focuses on calming the nervous system. Regenerate alternates heat and cold to support recovery. Activate uses contrast therapy to boost energy. Each takes 60 to 130 minutes and is complimentary for spa and hotel guests.
Which hotel should I choose for a wellness stay?
The Waldhotel is the wellness-focused hotel. Its 137 rooms are built into the hillside with floor-to-ceiling Alpine views. The Waldhotel Spa follows a "Healthy by Nature" concept. For a more social, design-led experience, the Bürgenstock Hotel (Contemporary or Heritage wings) gives direct access to the Alpine Spa.
What is there to do beyond the spa?
The resort has three Diamond Domes tennis courts with LUX Tennis coaching, a 9-hole Alpine golf course, yoga classes, forest trails, a cliff walk, and Europe's highest outdoor elevator. Day trips include lake excursions, paragliding, cave tours and visits to Lucerne.
How does Bürgenstock compare to other Swiss wellness resorts?
Bürgenstock stands out for its sheer scale: 60 hectares, 10,000 square metres of spa, five pools. It is more of a resort destination than a clinical wellness facility. For structured medical programs, consider Clinique La Prairie, Lanserhof or Bad Ragaz. For a similar Alpine spa hotel experience, Forestis in South Tyrol or Lefay on Lake Garda offer alternatives.
Is Bürgenstock suitable for families?
Yes. The Alpine Spa has a Kids Club and designated family splash times. The Vitality Suite at the Waldhotel sleeps four with two bedrooms. Activities like the chocolate class, cinema, and Hammetschwand Lift appeal to children. That said, the Waldhotel Spa maintains adult-only quiet zones.
What does a stay at Bürgenstock cost?
Room rates at the Waldhotel start from around CHF 500 per night for an Alpine Deluxe Room with Balcony. Suites range from CHF 900 to over CHF 2,000. Spa access at the Waldhotel Spa is included for Waldhotel guests. Alpine Spa day passes are available separately. Treatment prices vary by brand and duration.
