Marbella Club is the property that invented the Costa del Sol as anyone now understands it. Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe opened it in 1954 on the family finca of Santa Maranta, and its founding philosophy, elegant simplicity, is still the most accurate two-word description of the place. Seven decades later it remains a beachfront resort of gardens, bungalows and villas rather than a tower, and it is the anchor of the Golden Mile.

The setting does real work. Sheltered by the Sierra Blanca, Marbella has a microclimate with mild temperatures year round and more than 320 days of sunshine, which is why the wellness programmes here run from one day to seven nights in any month rather than in a season.

The wellness offering is built around a Thalasso Spa working with seawater, an in-house team of naturopaths, nutritionists, therapists and fitness experts, a Pilates studio with reformers, a yoga deck at Finca Ana María overlooking the Mediterranean, organic gardens supplying the juices, and a dedicated wellness chef. Every programme opens with a Lifestyle and Nutrition Consultation and closes with a post-stay assessment and ongoing expert follow-up, which is the part that distinguishes it.

The Marbella Club approach

The wellness programmes here are lifestyle programmes rather than clinical protocols, and the house is deliberate about being non-intrusive. There is no fasting regime, no diagnostic screening and no medical department. What there is instead is an in-house team of resident naturopaths, nutritionists, therapists and fitness experts, and a structure that starts and finishes properly.

Every programme opens with a Lifestyle and Nutrition Consultation, which the property describes as both an evaluation and a compass: it establishes where you are and sets the direction for the stay. From there the programme is customisable, so treatments and activities can be swapped according to preference and to how you respond.

The closing half matters more than the opening one. Each programme ends with a post-stay assessment, and ongoing follow-up with the experts is available afterwards. Very few wellness properties at any price point offer structured support after departure, and it is the single strongest argument for choosing Marbella Club when the objective is a change that has to survive contact with normal life.

The six programmes run from one day to seven nights, which makes the offering unusually flexible. A single day works as an introduction, three nights as a genuine reset, and seven as a full lifestyle programme. Marbella Club also builds bespoke wellness retreats for private groups.

Food and nutrition

A dedicated wellness chef prepares seasonal Mediterranean cuisine, and the resident nutritionist is part of the programme rather than an add-on: the stated role is to educate, inspire and remind guests of the beneficial qualities of natural ingredients.

The organic gardens on the estate supply the fresh juices, and the Mediterranean diet does the rest of the work. This is the one wellness destination where the local food culture and the therapeutic diet are the same thing, which removes most of the friction that makes healthy eating hard to sustain afterwards.

Programme menus vary by objective. Cleanse and Purify runs full-board purifying menus that are plant-based and nutrient-rich, chosen to help the body rest, repair and rejuvenate, with probiotic supplementation. Beach Ready pairs full-board healthy menus with nutrition guidance for gentle, sustainable weight loss.

Outside the programmes the resort runs its full dining offering, including the iconic beachfront chiringuito with its palapa and pier serving fresh Mediterranean seafood, and La Bodega wine cellar. Chef-led culinary experiences focused on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients run through the year.

The resort

A beachfront estate of subtropical gardens on the Marbella Golden Mile, built out from the original Santa Maranta finca, with rooms, suites, bungalows and villas rather than a single hotel block. The Andalusian aesthetic runs through all of it: whitewash, terracotta, flowers and shade.

The Thalasso Spa is the wellness centre, working through a seawater pool, treatments and rituals, with therapies personalised to each guest. Alongside it sit a Pilates studio with reformers and private instruction, and a yoga deck at Finca Ana María with a view over the Mediterranean.

The Beach Club runs year round, with the signature chiringuito, its palapa and its pier. There is a Kids Club in the subtropical gardens, a Clubhouse that acts as the social heart of the resort, La Bodega wine cellar, and golf and equestrian facilities.

The protected parkland behind the resort supports both contemplative use and active pursuits, with hiking and cycling straight off the property. Programming through the year includes music-led movement sessions under the name Sanctum, private Pilates, visiting wellness experts and chef-led culinary experiences.

The body-confidence programme, and honest about being one.

The Mediterranean Lifestyle programme at Marbella Club, drawing on Mediterranean healing traditions

Mediterranean Lifestyle

3–7 nights · Price on request

The signature programme, inspired by Mediterranean healing traditions and the natural elements of the setting.

Facials, body treatments and personalised massage for exfoliation and calming, wrapped around the seasonal Mediterranean cuisine that is the region’s own therapeutic diet. It is the most well-rounded of the six and the least goal-specific, which is exactly what some guests want.

Fitness training at Marbella Club, part of the Optimal Fitness and Energy programme

Optimal Fitness & Energy

3–7 nights · Price on request

A programme for stamina and physical performance, with the mental benefits treated as part of the objective rather than as a side effect.

The in-house fitness experts build the programming, with the Pilates studio and its reformers, private instruction, and the protected parkland behind the resort for hiking and cycling. Sanctum, the resort’s music-led movement session, runs through the year.

Restorative therapy at Marbella Club, part of the Tranquility and Sleep Enhancing programme

Tranquility & Sleep Enhancing

3–7 nights · Price on request

A sleep programme built on evidence-based techniques rather than on atmosphere.

It combines sleep-enhancement treatments with routines designed to be taken home, which is the only part of a sleep programme that ultimately matters. Marbella Club’s post-stay follow-up makes that considerably more likely to stick than a week of good nights on its own.

Frequently asked questions

What is the atmosphere like, and who stays here?

Elegant and unhurried rather than clinical, and social rather than silent. Marbella Club has been a family and society address since 1954 and still reads that way: multi-generational groups, couples, and returning guests who have been coming for decades. The wellness guests are a strand within a resort rather than the whole population, which suits people who want a programme without the atmosphere of a clinic.

What makes Marbella Club different?

The post-stay follow-up. Every programme opens with a Lifestyle and Nutrition Consultation and closes with a post-stay assessment plus ongoing expert support, which almost nothing else at this level offers. Add a genuine year-round microclimate, programmes from one day to seven nights, a Thalasso Spa working with seawater, and a resort that a non-participating partner will happily spend a week in, and it solves a set of problems that most wellness properties do not even try to.

How much does Marbella Club cost?

Prices are being integrated. Marbella Club quotes accommodation per room per night with the wellness programme charged separately, and rates move considerably with season. Contact us for a current quote and we will confirm it with the resort.

What are the alternatives to Marbella Club?

In Spain the closest comparisons are SHA Wellness Clinic near Alicante and ZEM Wellness Clinic in Altea, both of which are far more medical and far less of a resort, and Buchinger Wilhelmi Marbella for therapeutic fasting a few minutes away. If the appeal is a beachfront resort with a serious wellness strand rather than a clinic, Lily of the Valley in the south of France and Six Senses Ibiza are the nearest equivalents, and Euphoria Retreat in Greece offers more programme structure in a quieter setting.

How long are the wellness programmes?

All six run from one day to seven nights, which is unusually flexible. A single day works as an introduction, two or three nights as a genuine reset, and a full week as a lifestyle programme. Every length begins with the same Lifestyle and Nutrition Consultation.

What happens after I leave?

Each programme includes a post-stay assessment, and ongoing follow-up with the wellness experts is available afterwards. This is the most distinctive thing Marbella Club offers: structured support after departure is rare at any price, and it is what turns a good week into a change that holds.

Is there a doctor or any medical testing?

No. Marbella Club runs an in-house team of naturopaths, nutritionists, therapists and fitness experts rather than a medical department, and the approach is deliberately non-intrusive. If you want diagnostics and screening, this is not the right property.

When is the best time to go?

Any month. Marbella sits in a microclimate sheltered by the Sierra Blanca, with mild temperatures year round and more than 320 days of sunshine, so the programmes run properly in February as well as in July. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable for the hiking and cycling in the parkland behind the resort.

Can I bring family who are not doing a programme?

Yes, and this is one of the easier wellness properties to do that at. It is a full beachfront resort with a Beach Club, a Kids Club, golf, an equestrian centre and Puerto Banús along the seafront, so a non-participating partner or family is genuinely occupied rather than waiting.

How do I get there?

Fly to Málaga-Costa del Sol (AGP), which has direct flights from across Europe, then about forty minutes by road. Gibraltar is roughly an hour away and is sometimes the better connection from the United Kingdom.
