Atlas Cove, in detail

01
The property
Atlas Cove is a six-day longevity residency on a private quinta of 130 hectares beside the Serra da Arrábida, fifty minutes south of Lisbon. One gate, one cohort and one long table. Guests are measured during the week and measured again before they leave.
It is deliberately not a clinic and not a spa. Lisa and Tom Wuerden, sister and brother, host every cohort themselves rather than handing it to rotating staff, with three specialists carrying the practice, the kitchen and the recovery work. Ten rooms in September and sixteen from November, which puts a cohort at roughly ten to twenty guests and a practical ceiling of fifteen.
More on the property
There are two cohorts in 2026 and the week is fixed. Days are not sold separately and the residency cannot be shortened or extended.

02
What happens over the six days?
Questionnaires before arrival, then VO2 max and grip strength measured on day two on instruments they bring. The hosts and specialists build a protocol from those numbers and adjust it daily. On day five each guest designs their own take-home protocol with the team, the measurements are repeated, and a written comparison is handed over at closing.
What they measure is VO2 max and grip strength on day two and day five, segmental body composition, blood pressure, sleep inside the protected window, and mobility and energy across the week. They report ranges and protocol rather than headline numbers, and they say plainly that five-day body composition change is mostly water.
More on what happens over the six days?
The day is built around the light: waking at 06:45, mobility and yoga then personalised strength before a late breakfast, cognitive training at midday, deliberate free time through the afternoon heat, sauna and cold plunge at 17:00, a knowledge session, then a long dinner and lights out at 21:00. On day four the cohort leaves before dawn for Praia dos Galapos for a sunrise meditation and an Atlantic immersion.
Atlas Cove employs no treating physician and performs no medical procedures. Every guest is medically screened for safety before the physical work begins, and anyone who needs a clinician is told so. The optional IV and bloodwork service is delivered by an independent licensed clinical provider contracted directly by the guest.

03
What do you eat at Atlas Cove?
Every meal is cooked on site by Alexander Lange and his team, from scratch each morning: certified organic, sourced from organic, biodynamic and regenerative producers, nothing frozen, nothing processed, no refined sugar, no seed oils and no non-stick cookware. The kitchen and vegetable gardens on the estate feed the long table.
Meals sit inside one eating window each day so the night carries a long unbroken fast. The welcome and closing dinners run as six-course candlelit evenings. There is no alcohol during the week, by design.
More on what do you eat at atlas cove?
The menu is written each week around the market and around each guest’s protocol rather than served from a fixed card. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy free are routine, and the kitchen cooks nut free and coeliac safe when it is flagged on the pre-arrival questionnaire.

04
What is the estate like?
Casas na Ferraria, a converted quinta on 130 hectares of protected land. Casa Ansuz and Casa Kenaz hold the September week and Casa Mannaz opens alongside them in November. Walkways put everything within two minutes on foot, and Atlas Cove has the retreat section of the estate to itself, one cohort at a time, with no shared spaces and no shared schedule.
The training spaces are the shala, an open pavilion among the pines, and an indoor studio for any weather, each holding up to thirty. There is a strength room with a treadmill, cable machine, bike and kettlebells, and a 15 metre heated lap pool on the panoramic terrace above the valley.
More on what is the estate like?
The recovery wing has a wood-fired barrel sauna for eight among the trees, run daily in rotating sittings, a cold plunge held between 6 and 10 degrees, and full body red light therapy included for every guest. Massage rooms and a clinically supervised IV station are booked as enhancements.
The build is part of the protocol: lime plaster and clay paint, cork, stone and untreated pine, natural fibres and filtered water throughout, essential oils only and no toxic cleaning products. Guided hikes run a 2.5 km estate loop and a 5 km lagoon route.

Booking policy
Booking policy
Every guest has a fit call with Lisa or Tom Wuerden. It happens after the booking rather than before, within a few days, and the place is confirmed once the call has happened. If Atlas Cove judge it the wrong week for someone, they say so and refund everything, deposit included, with nothing deducted. A 20% deposit reserves the room and the balance falls due 45 days before arrival. A booking made inside that 45-day window is paid in full at the time of booking, so a September 2026 booking is always a single full payment. Checkout takes card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, SEPA transfer and Klarna, instalments included. Atlas Cove can also issue a payment link for a booking and send it to us to pass on. Rates include Portuguese VAT. Atlas Cove invoices under the travel agency margin scheme, so tax is not shown separately on the invoice.
Cancellation policy
Cancellation policy
Cancellation 60 days or more before the start is refunded in full, deposit included. Inside 60 days, everything paid is held as credit toward another Atlas Cove residency rather than refunded. A booking can be moved to a later cohort up to 45 days before arrival. Each cohort needs a minimum number of guests to run. If Atlas Cove move a date or the minimum is not reached, the guest reschedules or takes full credit. If they cancel a cohort outright, the guest chooses an alternative date or a full refund. Travel insurance covering cancellation is recommended.

Questions we are asked
Atmosphere, prices, alternatives
Questions we are asked
Atmosphere, prices, alternatives
Who is Atlas Cove for?
Professionally engaged people, mostly between 30 and 60, who want longevity rigour rather than spa hospitality, structure rather than an activities menu, and are willing to spend a week without alcohol and largely without a phone. Every application is read for fit before anyone is accepted.
How fit do I need to be?
Beginner to intermediate is welcome and every session is scaled. The work is programmed from each guest’s own numbers, so a beginner and a marathoner train side by side, each at their own edge. Limitations go on the questionnaire and are built into the plan.
Is there medical staff on site?
No, and they are direct about it. Atlas Cove is not a clinic and there is no treating physician on the property. The measurements are taken and interpreted by the hosts together with the specialists, and they produce a protocol, not a diagnosis. Every guest is medically screened for safety before the physical work begins. IV drips and bloodwork are delivered on site by an independent licensed clinical provider, contracted directly by the guest. If anything they see calls for a clinician, they say so.
What does the rate include?
Five nights in a private ensuite room with its own terrace, every meal of the week cooked on site, group transfers from and to Lisbon airport, the full measurement on day two and day five with a written comparison, every session, the personal take-home protocol, sauna, cold plunge and red-light therapy daily, laundry, photographs of the week, and the first month of follow-up once the guest is home. There is no service fee and no tipping. Flights are the guest’s own.
What can be booked on top?
Six things, and nothing is pushed at anyone during the week. A 60-minute massage at €110 or 90 minutes at €150, choosing between relaxing, sports, manual lymphatic drainage and reflexology. A private yoga class at €130, a private nutrition consult at €125, and a movement assessment with a personal coach at €130, all 60 minutes. IV drips and bloodwork carry a €15 coordination fee, with the protocols themselves at €199 to €299 paid directly to the licensed clinical provider.
Do I have to do the sauna and the cold plunge?
No. Heat and cold are dosed from your baseline like everything else and never taken past it. The longest cold exposure of the week is two and a half minutes on day five, and it is optional. The health questions at booking ask specifically about conditions affected by heat or cold.
Is it comfortable to come alone?
Most guests do. One cohort, one long table, first names by the first dinner. Solo guests who choose the Shared Twin are paired in advance through the questionnaire, same gender unless they ask otherwise. For women travelling solo: one gate, transfers arranged door to door, women across the specialist team, and everyone on the property all week.
When are the 2026 cohorts?
Two. The first runs 1 to 6 September 2026, Tuesday to Sunday, with ten rooms. The second runs 1 to 6 November 2026, Sunday to Friday, with Casa Mannaz open alongside the other two houses. November was the dearer of the two until Atlas Cove revised it down in August: they are opening that cohort to more rooms, the team, the house and the kitchen do not cost more for a larger group, and they passed the difference on. The two weeks now sit within a few hundred euros of each other. From November the residency runs one cohort a month.
What happens after I book?
A call with Lisa or Tom, within a few days. It comes after the booking rather than before, and your place is confirmed once you have had it. If they decide it is not the right week for you, they say so and refund everything, deposit included, with nothing deducted. It is the honest version of a curated cohort: they would rather return the money than put the wrong person in a room.
