Programmes
Panoramic Himalayan foothill landscape for hiking retreats at Six Senses Vana

A programme that uses the Himalayan landscape as its primary therapeutic tool. Guided mindfulness hikes through the forests and foothills around Dehradun are combined with breathwork, meditation, Ayurvedic treatments, and natural healing therapies to create a stress reset grounded in movement and nature.

There is strong evidence that time in nature — particularly in forest environments — reduces cortisol, lowers blood pressure, and restores nervous system balance. The hikes are adapted to each guest's fitness level and the mindfulness component transforms the walk into a moving meditation practice.

Available from 3 nights. All inclusive: accommodation, full-board, daily treatments, group classes, wellness consultation, and retreat attire.

02

Holistic approach

Every guest at Six Senses Vana follows a wellness program. And each program is completely personalised for the needs and objectives of each guest.

Vana draws on four complementary healing traditions:

More on holistic approach

Ayurveda forms the foundation, with resident doctors conducting thorough dosha assessments and prescribing personalised treatments, herbal medicines, and menus aligned with your dosha.

The retreat is also one of the few places in the world offering authentic Traditional Tibetan Medicine (Sowa Rigpa), with doctors of the Men-Tsee-Khang institute.

Alongside these, a team of yoga masters guides group classes and private sessions, with work on asana, pranayama, meditation, and yoga nidra.

Natural Healing Therapies complete the offering, encompassing reflexology, physiotherapy, acupuncture and TCM, Raag therapy, and energy work to remove blocks and restore alignment.

Amazing food

Food at Six Senses Vana is medicine as well as gastronomy. The recipes were designed by chef Rajesh, a passionate artist, drawing inspiration from the most authentic Indian cuisine as well as cuisines from around the world. Food at Six Senses Vana is as much a pleasure as it is healthy. And it is not spicy at all.

The menus change every day, and the staff knows precisely what ingredients were used, and which dish is appropriate for your body type: Vata, Pitta, or Kapha.

More on amazing food

There is also an in-house apothecary, with decoctions, infusions, herbal mixtures, and topical applications based on Ayurvedic, Sowa Rigpa, and naturopathic principles. They are all made with local ingredients.

There are 2 restaurants at Six Senses Vana:

Salana, the restaurant where you can enjoy buffet and à la carte, eat on your own or with friends. It even offers a community table if you would like to engage conversation and make new friends with other guests of the retreat.

Anayu is a more quiet restaurant, upstairs, which is ideal for the guests who want to eat on their own and/or in silence.

The vibes at Vana

Six Senses Vana is a stunning luxury wellness resort. The Spanish architects Esteva i Esteva designed a beautiful and well-thought piece of architecture. There is a great feeling of elegance: muted tones, warm wood, contemporary furnishings, and artwork. And all of that merges nicely with the natural surroundings.

The buildings are immersed in nature, and the whole resort is very advanced in terms of sustainability. There are 66 rooms and 16 suites but the occupancy level is kept really low to ensure the experience remains extremely high-end at all times. Guests come from all over the world.

More on the vibes at vana

The staff at Six Senses Vana is extremely attentive, caring and supportive. From the first day, they know your name, your habits and preferences, and make you feel very special.

Phones are not allowed in public places at Six Senses Vana: it creates a digital detox environment, which is essential to rest the mind during a retreat, and also offers great benefits for the privacy of all the guests. You can use your electronic devices in your room, in the business center, or in the bar of Six Senses Vana.

Questions we are asked

Atmosphere, prices, alternatives

Do I need to follow a strict program or detox?

Not necessarily. Most of the guests at Six Senses Vana follow a soft approach to wellness. While targeted programs (like detox, sleep, or Ayurveda) exist, the retreat is flexible and intention-led. You can go deep into a transformation journey at your own pace. Or keep things lighter and restorative, enjoy the continental breakfast and the delicious croissants: everything is adapted to your readiness and goals. And you adapt your program with the help of your dedicated Ayurvedic doctor, based on your objectives, your feelings, and the results of your health check-up.

What kind of results or transformation can I expect?

Most guests experience a reset across physical, mental, and emotional health, from improved sleep and energy to better stress management and long-term lifestyle habits. The focus is not quick fixes, but sustainable change rooted in both ancient healing systems and modern science. This is in part thanks to the exceptional vertues of Traditional Tibetan Medicine: it's not well known, but it's very powerful to rest the mind and balance the emotions.

What makes Six Senses Vana different from other luxury wellness retreats?

Six Senses Vana stands out for its deeply immersive approach blending Ayurveda, yoga, Tibetan medicine, and health diagnostics into one cohesive journey. Rather than offering a fixed program, every stay is completely tailored based on your health assessment, goals, and length of stay. Other properties where you can access very deep Ayurveda expertise includes Tulah in Kerala, Ananda in the Himalayas, Santani in Sri Lanka. Six Senses Vana is, however, the only luxury resort offering Traditional Tibetan Medicine. One small detail: there is a digital detox policy at Six Senses Vana. You are encouraged to leave your phone in your room. And it's a well-respected policy.

What is included in a typical stay?

A stay is all-inclusive: accommodation, food (3 meals per day, and a tea-time with snacks), daily treatments, wellness consultations, group classes (yoga, meditation, fitness), and even retreat attire ( white kurta and pyjama). The idea is to remove all friction so guests can fully focus on their wellbeing.

Where is Six Senses Vana and how do I get there?

Vana sits on a hill in Dehradun, in the Himalayan foothills, with forest inside the estate and more forest beside it. Most guests fly to Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport, 45 minutes away, with direct connections from Delhi. By road, the new motorway from Delhi to Dehradun brings the drive to around five hours.

Who is Vana best suited for?

Guests who want a luxury yoga or Ayurveda retreat. This is a real wellness resort, not a Six Senses hotel with a great spa. Days are quiet, introspective and often transformative. Screens are discouraged in shared spaces. Solo travellers do especially well here, and it also works for couples and small groups. If you want beach glamour or evening life, look at Chiva-Som or Kamalaya instead.

How long should I stay?

Five nights is the realistic minimum for the programs to show results. Most guests stay seven to fourteen nights. The Panchakarma program asks for 21 nights or more.

What healing traditions does Vana practise?

Three traditions are combined: Ayurveda, Tibetan Sowa Rigpa, and yoga in its purest, therapeutic form. Your program can follow one or blend them. Few places anywhere offer Sowa Rigpa, traditional Tibetan medicine, and fewer still at this level.

How does Vana compare to Ananda in the Himalayas?

They are close to each other, and both are serious about Ayurveda and yoga. Ananda feels more therapeutic and more spiritual at the same time. Vana feels like a luxury resort that happens to be very good for health and wellbeing. Guests who want structure and efficiency choose Ananda. Those who want a touch more indulgence choose Vana.
