Euphoria Retreat, in detail

Byzantine-inspired tower of the Euphoria Retreat main building at dusk, luxury wellness hotel Peloponnese Greece

01

The property

Euphoria Retreat sits above the medieval village of Mystras in the Greek Peloponnese. It is a 90-minute drive from Kalamata airport and under three hours from Athens by road. The setting is warm, sensual and unmistakably Greek.

Founder Marina Efraimoglou built Euphoria after her own recovery from cancer and burnout in the world of investment banking. She wanted a place where health returns through pleasure rather than denial. The method blends Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Five Elements, ancient Greek philosophy and modern metabolic science. Marina's personal warmth runs through the whole property. Guests often spend time with her directly on her signature retreats.

More on the property

This is a happy place. Food is generous, massages are long, and the medical side is serious without being clinical. Euphoria suits guests who want proper longevity diagnostics and metabolic work delivered in a setting that feels more like a gracious Mediterranean home than a hospital.

The Euphoria Method

Euphoria runs on a single framework called the Euphoria Methodos. It weaves together Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Five Elements, ancient Greek Hippocratic thinking and contemporary metabolic medicine. The signature diagnostic is the patented 3GL Plus test, which reads metabolic function from a few drops of blood and drives everything that follows.

The medical team uses 3GL results to set your nutrition, your supplementation and your treatment schedule. The Advanced Medical Holistic Longevity program sits at the top of the offer. It covers cellular diagnostics, cardiovascular and hormonal assessment, biological age, gut health, and targeted interventions.

More on the euphoria method

Around this sits a softer layer of bodywork, movement, breathwork, sound therapy and Taoist practice. Euphoria's signature treatments happen inside a sphere-shaped Byzantine spa building, with a watsu pool, kneipp walk, salt room and hammam. The goal is to match hard science with deep physical pleasure.

Food at Euphoria

Food at Euphoria is served at Gaia, the property's Mediterranean restaurant, and it is not included in program pricing. That sounds unusual until you understand why. Each guest follows a different food plan, built around their 3GL test results, their program goals and any conditions they want to address. You pay for what suits you.

The cooking is contemporary Greek with strong Peloponnesian roots. Expect olive oil from the surrounding hills, local fish, wild greens, slow-cooked lamb, fresh cheeses and herb-rich broths. Nothing is clinical or restrictive by default. Wine is on the menu for guests whose plan allows it.

More on food at euphoria

For fully private occasions, Euphoria also runs a small private dining room inside the restored 1830s Leoncini Mansion. The room is set with monastery-style linen, candlelight and pieces from the owner's own art collection. It works well for couples or small family groups who want real privacy at dinner.

04

The property

Euphoria has 45 rooms and suites spread across a 19th-century Mystras mansion and a purpose-built Byzantine-inspired annexe. Interiors are calm and monastic, with blond wood floors, bespoke handmade mattresses, warm lighting and bathrooms stocked with the retreat's own herbal products made from ancient Greek recipes.

The centrepiece is the sphere-shaped spa building, a three-storey structure inspired by Byzantine architecture and the Taoist map of the body. Inside, you find an indoor pool with hydrotherapy circuits, a watsu pool, a kneipp walk, a salt room, a hammam and a sauna. Dedicated spaces for fitness, yoga, Pilates and functional movement sit alongside.

More on the property

The surrounding landscape matters as much as the building itself. You are in the wild mountain hinterland of the Peloponnese, walking distance from Byzantine Mystras and an easy drive from ancient Sparta, the Taygetus peaks and the Mani coast. Guests who come for medical programs still leave with a real sense of having travelled.

Where is Euphoria Retreat?

Euphoria sits above the medieval village of Mystras in Laconia, southern Peloponnese, Greece. The nearest international airport is Kalamata (KLX), about 90 minutes by car. Athens (ATH) is around three hours away and works well for guests flying long-haul. The retreat arranges private transfers from both airports.

What programs does Euphoria offer?

Three main tracks. The medical side runs on the 3GL Plus test and includes Advanced Medical Longevity, Nutrigenomics, Advanced Weight Management, Female Health, Optimal Sleep, Cellular Detox and Immunity. Softer wellness programs cover detox, stress, fitness, yoga and couples. Founder-led retreats include The Odysseus Retreat, Feel Alive Again and Conscious Leadership, several of which Marina runs herself.

How long should I stay?

Three nights is the minimum and works for a light reset. Seven nights covers most detox, de-stress and introductory medical programs. For the full longevity, weight management or nutrigenomics tracks, plan on 10 to 14 nights. The 21-night option is for guests who want lasting metabolic change.

Who is Euphoria best for?

Guests who want serious health work delivered in a warm, sensual setting rather than a clinical one. It suits solo travellers, couples and small groups. If you want a strict medical clinic feel, look at Chenot Palace Weggis, Clinique Nescens or Lanserhof instead. If you want a pure beach resort, Euphoria is not for you.

What is the Euphoria Methodos?

It is the in-house philosophy that threads every program together. It combines Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Five Elements, ancient Greek Hippocratic medicine and modern metabolic science. The signature diagnostic is the patented 3GL Plus test, which reads how your metabolism handles energy from a few drops of blood.

Who is the founder and does she still run the place?

Yes. Marina Efraimoglou founded Euphoria after her own recovery from cancer and burnout in investment banking. She remains actively involved and personally hosts several of the signature retreats, including Feel Alive Again, The Odysseus Journey and Conscious Leadership. Guests regularly describe working with her as the highlight of their stay.

Is food included in the program price?

No, and this is intentional. Each guest eats differently based on their 3GL test results and personal goals, so meals are charged separately. Food is served at Gaia, the in-house Mediterranean restaurant. Private dining for couples and small groups can also be arranged inside the restored 1830s Leoncini Mansion.

Can I bring my partner if only one of us is doing a program?

Yes, often. Non-participating partners can book a room and use the spa, restaurant and grounds while the other guest runs their program. Couples can also book the Euphoria Escape for Couples package or run parallel individual programs at the same time.

How does Euphoria compare to other medical wellness clinics in Europe?

Think of it as the Greek counterweight to Chenot, Lanserhof and Kusnacht. The diagnostics and medical rigour are real, especially on longevity and metabolic health, but the tone is warmer and more Mediterranean. Food is generous, wine is allowed on most plans, and the setting feels like a home rather than a clinic.

What does it cost?

Rooms start from €505 per night for a Classic and rise to €2,770 for the 100 m² Byzantium Grand Suite. Medical programs are charged on top and typically run from around €2,500 for a short introductory stay into five figures for the full Advanced Medical Holistic Longevity track. Food is billed separately.

Is Euphoria Retreat a boutique luxury wellness clinic?

The property has 45 rooms, a Byzantine-inspired main building, a thermal pool carved out of local stone, and views straight onto the slopes of Mount Taygetus. It definitely is a boutique luxury wellness retreat.
