The program suits deep cellular detox and chronic conditions that have resisted other approaches. Typical reasons guests choose Panchakarma include diabetes, migraines, stubborn weight gain, and chronic digestive issues.

Ananda in the Himalayas, in detail

01
The property
Ananda in the Himalayas is a destination medical wellness retreat integrating Ayurveda, Traditional Oriental therapies, physiotherapy, yoga, meditation, and evidence-informed nutrition. Programs follow a structured, consultative model with pre-arrival guidance, on-site assessments and progress checks led by a Lead Consultant, and post-stay follow-up to support sustained outcomes. Protocols use dosha-based dietary planning, targeted therapeutic hours across Ayurvedic, Oriental and clinical physiotherapy modalities, and daily hydrotherapy along with scheduled group mind–body practices. Intensive options increase therapeutic dosing for complex conditions such as chronic pain or hormonal imbalance. The Himalayan setting and restorative environment are leveraged alongside clinically focused treatments to address detoxification, stress disorders, musculoskeletal dysfunction, metabolic imbalance, and healthy aging.

02
What is Ananda's approach to wellness?
Ananda's model blends four Indian traditions with modern clinical medicine. Ayurvedic doctors lead every stay. They work alongside physiotherapists, Traditional Oriental medicine specialists, yoga teachers, emotional wellness coaches, and nutritionists. Each guest gets a single Lead Consultant who owns the outcome from pre-arrival through post-stay follow-up.
The programs work at three intensities. Foundation includes about one hour of therapy per day and suits first-time visitors or shorter breaks. Comprehensive adds roughly two hours per day, with physiotherapy and emotional wellness consultations included. Intensive increases dosing to around three hours per day and is designed for chronic conditions or deeper reset goals.
More on what is ananda's approach to wellness?
Therapies draw from Ayurveda, Traditional Oriental medicine, physiotherapy, yoga, and Vedanta talks. Ayurvedic treatments include Abhyanga, Shirodhara, and Panchakarma. Physiotherapy uses Class IV lasers and ZRT matrix therapy. Yoga and pranayama follow the Hatha tradition. Every plan is adjusted weekly based on measured progress.

03
What do you eat at Ananda?
Ananda's cuisine follows dosha principles. Every guest receives a Lead Consultant assessment that identifies whether their constitution is Vata, Pitta, or Kapha dominant. Menus are built around that profile and adjusted through the stay.
Three wellness meals are served daily. The kitchen draws from six taste categories (sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, astringent) and blends Western and Eastern cooking techniques. Emphasis is on whole grains, fresh vegetables and fruit, lean fish and chicken, and low-fat dairy. No added salt, artificial colours, flavours, or preservatives are used.

Dining venues include the main Restaurant, the Palace Lounge for tea, a poolside setting, and private dining on request. Dietary accommodations for gluten-free, nut-free, and dairy-free guests are standard. The Ananda Wellbeing app offers recipes by dosha for use at home.

04
What are the facilities like at Ananda?
Ananda occupies 100 acres of forested Himalayan foothills above Rishikesh. The property is built around the former Viceregal Palace of the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal, restored as the reception and tea lounge. The Ganges flows in the valley below, and the spiritual towns of Rishikesh and Haridwar are nearby.
The wellness centre spans 25,000 square feet and holds 24 treatment rooms. Facilities include Ayurveda, international therapy, and hydrotherapy suites, a well-equipped gymnasium, yoga pavilions, consultation rooms, and meditation spaces. The spa menu runs to over 80 body and beauty treatments.

What clinical approach underpins Ananda’s wellness programs?
Ananda applies an integrative model combining Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Oriental therapies (e.g., acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion), physiotherapy, yoga, pranayama, meditation, and emotional wellbeing sessions. Each program is overseen by a Lead Consultant with staged assessments and tailored therapeutic dosing.
What consultations and assessments are included in programs?
All programs include a pre-arrival consultation and lifestyle guidance, on-arrival assessment with a Lead Consultant, ongoing progress checks, a pre-departure debrief, and post-stay follow-up. Comprehensive programs additionally include physiotherapy and emotional wellbeing consultations.
How are nutrition and diet managed during a stay?
Guests receive Ananda Wellness meals aligned to their program and dosha-based recommendations, prioritizing anti-inflammatory, digestive-balancing nutrition to support detox, metabolic reset, and tissue nourishment. At Ananda, the specially curated menus are tailor-made to each individual, incorporating seasonal variations in cuisine as well as recommended styles of cooking. The six fundamental food categories of sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter and astringent are combined with the three macronutrients of protein, fat and carbohydrates, all of which provide certain nutritional factors key to good health. The cuisine comprises fresh natural foods low in fat and calories with an emphasis on whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, low-fat dairy products, and the avoidance of added or artificial salts, colors, flavours, or preservatives.
What therapeutic and recovery facilities are available?
Daily access to hydrotherapy is included, comprising steam, sauna, chill plunge pool, and Kneipp hydrotherapy foot bath. Scheduled group activities include yoga, pranayama, meditation, Vedanta talks, fitness sessions, weekly cooking demonstrations, and weekly treks.
How are program durations structured?
Core programs are offered as Comprehensive and Intensive tracks typically over 7, 14, or 21 nights, with therapeutic hours scaled to duration and intensity. Some indications, such as weight management or long-standing pain, are typically advised at 14–21 nights for optimal outcomes. Ananda signature Intensive wellness programmes are journeys of deep commitment to achieve transformative results. They are ideal for addressing more challenging wellness objectives or for cases with deep seated chronic issues or complex disorders. These programmes include continuous wellness consultations with experts prior to arrival, during the programme and post departure to guide and monitor progress and achieve wellness goals. Programmes in the intensive category have the highest frequency of daily therapies combined with several personal sessions of yoga, meditation, fitness, and other wellness practices. On average, Intensive Wellness Programmes include 3 hours of wellness sessions daily. Ananda Comprehensive Wellness Programmes are immersive to address proactive health goals, ongoing lifestyle issues, and moderate disorders. These programmes include continuous wellness consultations with experts prior to arrival, during the programme and post departure to guide and monitor progress and achieve wellness goals. These programmes include therapies combined with personal sessions of yoga, meditation, fitness, and other wellness practices. On average, Comprehensive Wellness Programmes include 2 hours of wellness sessions daily. Ananda also offers a Foundation Wellness Programme which provides an introduction to understanding your body and mind from a holistic perspective. Customised wellness therapies help start your wellness journey. This programme includes a wellness consultation prior to arrival and during the programme. Guests on the Foundation programme are also encouraged to attend daily scheduled group wellness sessions including yoga, meditation, and Vedanta classes to enhance their wellness experience further. The Foundation Wellness Programme includes 1 hour of wellness session daily.
Which conditions are typically addressed?
Programs target detoxification and metabolic dysfunction, chronic stress and sleep disturbances, musculoskeletal pain and functional limitations, hormonal imbalance (including menopause and low testosterone), skin and joint aging, immunity support, fitness enhancement, and sustainable weight normalization.
What follow-up support is provided after departure?
A post-stay follow-up consultation with the Lead Consultant is included to review progress, refine home protocols, and support long-term adherence to nutrition, movement, breathwork, and lifestyle practices.
How is program intensity determined for complex or chronic cases?
Intensity is individualized based on the initial clinical assessment and condition chronicity. Intensive tracks increase therapeutic hours and may incorporate additional physiotherapy, Oriental medicine, or deeper Ayurvedic cleansing where clinically indicated.
Are the published rates inclusive of tax?
Rates are quoted in US dollars per room, per night, before tax. Indian Goods and Services Tax of 18% is added at the time of invoicing. The GST applies to the full room and program amount for every night of the stay.
How do the Foundation, Comprehensive, and Intensive programs differ in price?
All three tiers share the same room categories but carry different nightly program fees based on therapy volume. Foundation is the entry rate and includes about one hour of wellness sessions per day. Comprehensive adds roughly $45 to $90 per night on top of Foundation, with around two hours of daily sessions. Intensive is the highest-therapy tier at roughly $115 to $240 per night over Foundation, with three hours of daily sessions. The exact uplift depends on the season.
What do the double-occupancy rates cover?
Every room can be booked for single or double occupancy, and the published rates list both options per night. Sharing a room adds roughly $320 per night in the low season. At peak that figure rises to around $660 per night. Both guests follow the same program tier. Each person pays separately for their wellness therapies, consultations, and meals, so the double rate covers the room plus two full programs. Two Bedroom Villas are priced by the full villa for either two people or three to four people, not per room.
What's included in Ananda's nightly rate?
Ananda uses an all-inclusive pricing model. The program price covers accommodation in the Deluxe Palace Garden View Room plus full board for the length of the stay. All therapies and consultations at the chosen tier (Foundation, Comprehensive, or Intensive) are included. Yoga, meditation, Vedanta talks, and hydrotherapy access also run daily at no extra cost. Return airport transfers to and from Dehradun airport are included as well. Wellness meals are served in the restaurant, and in-room dining is charged extra. Guests who prefer a higher room category pay a nightly upgrade on top of the program price. The upgrade amount varies by season and room type, and is shown on each room page. GST of 18% applies on the full amount.
Are airport transfers included?
Yes. Return transfers to and from Dehradun airport (DED), the closest airport to Ananda, are included in the wellness programme rate at no extra charge.
What is Ananda’s policy on alcohol, smoking, and mobile phones?
Ananda is a retreat, and a few house rules protect that atmosphere. Alcohol is restricted for guests on a wellness programme. The property is entirely smoke-free. Mobile phones may not be used in the restaurant, the spa, or any of the wellness activity venues.
