Amanpuri means place of peace, and it is where Aman began. It opened in 1988 on its own private peninsula on the west coast of Phuket, above a coconut plantation and a private beach, and it defined a template that the rest of the luxury hotel industry has been copying ever since: pavilions rather than rooms, discretion rather than display, and a sense of arrival that has nothing to do with a lobby.

It is now also one of Aman’s most serious wellness addresses. The Holistic Wellness Centre runs twelve treatment rooms with hydrotherapy, a glass-walled gym over the sea, Pilates and yoga studios, a Muay Thai boxing ring and four floodlit tennis courts, staffed by doctors, physiotherapists and Traditional Chinese Medicine specialists as well as trainers and mindfulness teachers.

The wellness offering is structured as Immersions rather than as a spa menu, and it comes in two tiers: Original Immersions from three nights, built on nutrition, movement, specialised therapies and spa treatments, and Intensive Immersions from five nights, which add medical consultations and diagnostics. Both are individually tailored after an in-depth assessment and wellness screening, and both are booked through a Wellness Concierge rather than through reservations.

Aman Wellness Immersions

Amanpuri runs year-round, results-driven programmes designed for transformation, and structures them as Immersions rather than as treatment packages. Every Immersion begins with an in-depth assessment and wellness screening, after which the programme is built individually. Nothing is sold off a shelf.

There are two tiers. Original Immersions run from three nights and combine a personalised nutrition plan, movement sessions, specialised therapies and spa treatments, without medical diagnostics. Intensive Immersions run from five nights and incorporate every aspect of Amanpuri’s medical wellness offering, including thorough medical consultations and a range of medical diagnostics.

Four themes run across both tiers: Performance and Recovery, Weight Management, Detox and Cleansing, and Mindfulness and Stress Management. The practitioner bench behind them includes doctors, physiotherapists and Traditional Chinese Medicine specialists, alongside certified Pilates, yoga and Muay Thai instructors and mindfulness teachers.

One detail is worth singling out because it is genuinely unusual at this level: non-participating travel companions are explicitly accommodated. Amanpuri does not require both halves of a couple to be on the programme, and the resort is large and beautiful enough that the one who is not will not feel like a spectator. Aman also runs guest-hosted immersions with its Global Wellness Ambassadors, including a Performance and Recovery immersion created and hosted in person by Maria Sharapova and a Mobility and Recovery programme by Novak Djokovic.

Dining at Amanpuri

Amanpuri runs multiple restaurants across Mediterranean, Japanese, Thai and Italian cooking, plus an ocean platform out over the Andaman Sea, a beach club and pool terraces. This is a resort where dining is a reason to stay rather than a necessity, and the renovation completed in September 2026 adds further restaurants.

On an Immersion the nutrition is personalised: a plan is built from the initial assessment and screening, and the kitchens deliver against it. That is a meaningfully different proposition from a healthy menu offered alongside the main one, and it is the reason the Immersions work for weight management and detox as well as for recovery.

For guests not on a programme, and for non-participating companions, the full restaurant offering is available without restriction. Thai cuisine here is taken seriously rather than treated as a hotel obligation.

The peninsula

Amanpuri occupies its own peninsula on Phuket’s west coast, thirty minutes from Phuket International Airport, above a private beach and set into a former coconut plantation. Pavilions are woven into the greenery by a network of raised walkways, with terraces looking over the gardens or the Andaman Sea, and many now have private pools. Villas sit in seclusion at the tip of the peninsula with their own pools and dedicated staff including chefs.

The Holistic Wellness Centre has twelve treatment rooms, each with its own shower, restroom and dressing area, plus hydrotherapy facilities with a steam room and infrared saunas. A new Spa House with new hydrotherapies was added in the 2026 renovation.

For movement there is a glass-walled gym with sea views and personal trainers, Pilates and yoga studios, a Muay Thai boxing ring and four floodlit tennis courts with lessons available and a seasonal tennis pro.

The 2026 renovation, the most extensive in the resort’s 35-year history, reconfigured the wooden pavilions to be more open and spacious while keeping their traditional Thai elements, and added new restaurants, further private pools and new guest experiences. Amanpuri reopens on 14 September 2026.

Programs

The steam room in The Spa House at Amanpuri, part of the hydrotherapy used in the Detox and Cleansing Immersion

Detox & Cleansing Immersion

3–7 nights · Price on request

Body purification and mental rejuvenation, treated as one process rather than two.

Built after assessment and screening, the programme combines a cleansing nutrition plan with specialised therapies, hydrotherapy in the wellness centre’s steam room and infrared saunas, and Aman Signature spa treatments. The Intensive tier from five nights adds diagnostics, which is worth having if the goal is measurable rather than felt.

A double treatment room in The Spa House at Amanpuri, where the Intensive Wellness Immersion is delivered

Intensive Wellness Immersion

5–10 nights · Price on request

The medical tier, and the reason Amanpuri counts as a wellness address rather than a resort with a spa.

An Intensive Immersion incorporates every aspect of Amanpuri’s medical wellness offering, including thorough medical consultations and a range of medical diagnostics, and is then built out along whichever of the four themes fits: performance and recovery, weight management, detox and cleansing, or mindfulness and stress management.

Minimum five nights, because the diagnostics need time to produce something that can be acted on within the stay. Booked through the Aman Wellness Concierge.

Mindfulness practice at Amanpuri, the centre of the Mindfulness and Stress Management Immersion

Mindfulness & Stress Management Immersion

3–7 nights · Price on request

Inner healing and stress reduction, and the immersion that makes the most of where Amanpuri actually is.

Daily meditation and breathwork run with the resort’s mindfulness specialists, supported by specialised therapies, spa treatments and a nutrition plan built around the nervous system. The peninsula does the rest: no traffic, no crowd, and the Andaman Sea in every direction.

The glass-walled gym at Amanpuri with sea views, used in the Performance and Recovery Immersion

Performance & Recovery Immersion

Popular

3–7 nights · Price on request

The immersion that goes beyond symptom management to work on strength, mobility and function.

It is the theme Aman built its Global Wellness Ambassador programme around: the inaugural immersion was created and hosted in person by Maria Sharapova, with warm-up sessions led by Dr Jason Wersland, founder of Therabody, and the argument that elite performance thinking is not just for athletes but for anyone trying to optimise a career, a family and everything else.

In practice the programme combines mindfulness, movement, nutrition and recovery: consultation with the resort’s medical doctor, daily meditation and breathwork, performance sessions, recovery practices including IV treatment and hydro-facility treatments, and Aman Signature spa treatments. Minimum three nights, and individually tailored after an assessment.

Wellness at Amanpuri, where each Immersion begins with an assessment and a personalised nutrition plan

Weight Management Immersion

3–7 nights · Price on request

Sustainable loss or gain, with lasting behavioural change as the stated objective rather than a number at the end of the week.

The programme is built after an in-depth assessment and wellness screening, and combines a personalised nutrition plan with movement sessions, specialised therapies and spa treatments. Taken as an Intensive from five nights it adds medical consultations and diagnostics, which is what makes the behavioural side stick.

Frequently asked questions

What is the atmosphere like, and who stays here?

Discreet, quiet and adult in tone even though families are welcome. This is the original Aman and it still sets the standard for understated service: staff know your name and then leave you alone. Guests are international and affluent, often returning, and many combine a Wellness Immersion with a conventional holiday rather than treating the stay as a clinic visit.

What makes Amanpuri different?

It is the original Aman, on its own private peninsula, and it manages to be a genuine wellness address without ever feeling like a clinic. The two-tier Immersion structure lets you choose between a three-night restorative programme and a five-night medical one, both individually built after a screening. Non-participating companions are explicitly welcome, which very few serious wellness properties can honestly say.

How much does Amanpuri cost?

Prices are being integrated, and Aman does not publish rates. Amanpuri quotes an accommodation rate per pavilion or villa per night with the Wellness Immersion charged separately, subject to VAT and service charge. Immersions are priced after an assessment because they are built individually. Contact us and we will obtain a current quote through the Wellness Concierge.

What are the alternatives to Amanpuri?

In Thailand, Chiva-Som in Hua Hin is the more structured destination health resort, RAKxa near Bangkok is the most medical, and Kamalaya on Koh Samui is the most holistic and the closest in feeling. If it is specifically the Aman experience with wellness at the centre, Amanoi in Vietnam, Amanemu in Japan and Amanbagh in India are the sibling addresses. For a comparable beach setting with a deeper programme structure, COMO Shambhala Estate in Bali is worth weighing.

Is Amanpuri open?

Not right now. Amanpuri closed on 15 May 2026 for the most extensive renovation in its 35-year history and reopens on 14 September 2026. Reservations for dates after reopening open on 17 August 2026. Enquire now and we will hold dates for you.

What is the difference between an Original and an Intensive Immersion?

An Original Immersion runs from three nights and combines a personalised nutrition plan, movement sessions, specialised therapies and spa treatments, with no medical diagnostics. An Intensive Immersion runs from five nights and adds the full medical wellness offering: thorough medical consultations and a range of diagnostics. Both are tailored individually after an assessment and screening.

Can my partner come without doing a programme?

Yes, explicitly. Amanpuri accommodates non-participating travel companions as a matter of policy, which is unusual at this level. Given the beach, the restaurants, the tennis and the peninsula itself, a companion who is not on the Immersion has plenty to do.

How do I book a Wellness Immersion?

Through the Aman Wellness Concierge rather than standard reservations. The programme is built after an in-depth assessment and wellness screening, so the sequence is enquiry, assessment, then a tailored proposal, rather than picking a package off a list.

How long should I stay?

Three nights is the minimum for an Original Immersion and five for an Intensive. Given the flight from Europe, most guests should be thinking about a week, and the Immersion sits comfortably inside a longer Phuket stay because non-programme time is genuinely enjoyable here.

What was changed in the renovation?

The pavilions were reconfigured to be more open and spacious while keeping their traditional Thai elements, and the resort added new restaurants, further private pools, a new Spa House with new hydrotherapies, and new guest experiences. It is the most extensive work done at Amanpuri in 35 years.
