Programmes
Trail hiking in the Berkshires from Canyon Ranch Lenox, part of the Adrenaline Junkie experience

The hardest-working experience on the list, built to challenge physical limits rather than to restore.

Canyon Ranch has the terrain for it: the Berkshires on the doorstep, miles of trails, and a fitness team deep enough to program properly. Expect hiking, climbing, performance training and physiological assessment rather than a gentle daily class.

This programme is priced for each booking. The property confirms it for your dates.

Canyon Ranch Lenox, in detail

An autumn path through the woodland at Canyon Ranch Lenox, wellness resort in the Berkshires

01

The property

Canyon Ranch is the original trailblazer of integrative wellness, and Lenox is its New England house: a Gilded Age mansion in the Berkshires with a modern wellness campus attached, ninety minutes from Boston and under three hours from New York.

The estate is built around Bellefontaine, a 1897 mansion modelled on the Petit Trianon at Versailles, and the practical genius of the place is that climate-controlled hallways connect the guest rooms to every indoor facility. That matters more than it sounds in a Massachusetts winter, and it is why Lenox works as a wellness destination in February as well as in October.

More on the property

What you get is an all-inclusive rate that already carries unlimited meals, more than thirty-five daily mind-body activities, all fitness, yoga and meditation classes, unlimited use of the spa and fitness facilities, two pools, two restaurants, miles of trails and airport or train transport. On top of that you choose a Designed Experience, or build your own stay from more than 1,500 expert-led services.

02

The Canyon Ranch method

Canyon Ranch pioneered integrative wellness before wellness was a household word, and the method still reflects that origin: draw on both Western and Eastern practice, treat mind, body and spirit as one system, and look at complete wellbeing rather than at a single piece of it.

The work is organised around five pillars: Health and Performance, Mind and Spirit, Fitness and Movement, Nutrition and Food, and Spa and Beauty. An integrative team of physicians, nutritionists, exercise physiologists, behavioural health specialists, spiritual wellness practitioners and therapists work across those pillars rather than within them, which is what "integrative" is supposed to mean and rarely does.

More on the canyon ranch method

Every stay is curated around the guest’s intention rather than sold as a fixed protocol. A Wellness Guide is assigned before arrival and adjusts the plan as the stay goes on. There are more than 1,500 expert-led services available, and the house actively encourages guests to try something they have never done.

The structure on top is the Designed Experience: a curated stay package of services aimed at a goal, from peak performance to deep rest. Stay Your Way is the à la carte alternative for guests who would rather build their own. Either way the Lenox rate already carries the meals, the daily activity schedule, the classes and the facilities, so what you are choosing is which expert-led services to add.

03

Unlimited food

Nutrition and Food is one of the five pillars, and the rate reflects that: unlimited meals, unlimited snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are included in every night of every stay, at both restaurants.

The approach is not restriction. Canyon Ranch has spent decades arguing that healthy eating has to be enjoyable to survive contact with real life, so the menus are generous, seasonal and built to be replicable at home rather than to be endured for a week. Nutritionists are available for consultation on any stay and are central to the Get Healthy experience.

More on unlimited food

Demonstration kitchens run cooking classes as part of the daily schedule, which is where the education actually lands. Both restaurants have seasonal outdoor seating. Specific dietary requirements are accommodated as standard.

04

The Berkshires campus

The heart of the property is Bellefontaine, an 1897 mansion in the Berkshires, with the modern guest rooms and wellness buildings linked to it by climate-controlled hallways so that no part of a winter stay requires a coat.

Facilities include a full destination spa, an extensive fitness centre with a dedicated rowing studio, two pools, two restaurants with seasonal outdoor seating, a demonstration kitchen for cooking classes, treatment and consultation rooms for the integrative health team, and a great lawn that becomes the centre of the property in summer.

More on the berkshires campus

Outside there are miles of trails through Berkshire woodland, which is the single best argument for Lenox over Tucson: New England autumn on the doorstep, and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. The surrounding area is one of the densest cultural regions in the United States, with Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow and MASS MoCA all within reach.

Rates include transportation to and from the train station or airport, which makes the property practical to reach from New York by rail rather than by car.

Questions we are asked

Atmosphere, prices, alternatives

What is the atmosphere like, and who stays here?

Warm, unpretentious and distinctly American: this is a wellness institution rather than a design hotel, and guests come to do things rather than to be seen. The crowd skews North American, mostly adults, with a strong contingent of returning guests who have been coming for years. Solo travellers are entirely normal here, more so than at most European properties.

What makes Canyon Ranch Lenox different?

The depth of the offer. More than 1,500 expert-led services across five wellness pillars, an integrative team that genuinely works across disciplines, and a nightly rate that already includes the food, the classes and the facilities so the only decision left is which services to add. The Berkshires setting and the climate-controlled connections between buildings make it one of the few destination wellness resorts that works as well in winter as in summer.

How much does Canyon Ranch Lenox cost?

Prices are being integrated. Canyon Ranch quotes per person per night, with the rate already carrying meals, activities, classes, facilities and airport or train transport, and expert-led services either bundled into a Designed Experience or paid from credits. Rates move with season and packages change through the year, so contact us for a current quote.

What are the alternatives to Canyon Ranch Lenox?

Canyon Ranch Tucson is the obvious one: same method, different landscape and season. In North America the closest comparisons are Rancho La Puerta in Baja California, which is warmer, more agricultural and more communal, and The Ranch Malibu or Hudson Valley for a far more austere and physically demanding week. In Europe, guests weighing Canyon Ranch often also consider Chiva-Som and Kamalaya for a comparable breadth of expert-led services at a longer distance.

What is actually included in the nightly rate?

At Lenox: unlimited meals and snacks, more than thirty-five daily mind-body activities, fitness, yoga and meditation classes, unlimited use of the spa and fitness facilities, access to two pools, two restaurants with seasonal outdoor seating, miles of trails, and transportation to and from the train station or airport. Expert-led services such as massage, consultations and assessments are additional.

What is the difference between a Designed Experience and Stay Your Way?

A Designed Experience is a curated package of expert-led services aimed at a specific goal, from Get Healthy to Adrenaline Junkie, adjusted to you by a Wellness Guide. Stay Your Way is the à la carte alternative: the same all-inclusive base plus a nightly spa and fitness credit and a health and wellness credit on longer stays, spent however you choose.

Lenox or Tucson?

The programmes and the method are the same and the rates are broadly comparable, so choose on setting and season. Lenox is New England woodland, four real seasons, climate-controlled indoor connections and a dense cultural region around it, and it is the easier one to reach from New York or Boston. Tucson is Sonoran Desert, dry heat, desert hiking and Mount Lemmon climbing, with a longer outdoor season and a bigger campus.

Is there medical care?

There is an integrative health team including physicians, and the Get Healthy experience is built around consultations and assessments with them. It is not a medical clinic in the European sense: expect integrative medicine, nutrition, exercise physiology, behavioural health and sleep expertise rather than diagnostic screening panels.

How long should I stay?

Three nights is the practical minimum and is enough for a reset. Four to seven nights is where the Designed Experiences do their work, and the health and wellness credit on a Stay Your Way booking only applies from three nights onwards.
