Wellness destination

Italy

Italy is home to some of the best wellness clinics, as well as amazing wellness resorts: Palazzo Fiuggi, Palace Merano, Adler Balance, Lefay Garda...

Why Italy

Italy has more luxury wellness properties on our platform than any other country. Twelve partners, from the medical clinics of South Tyrol to the thermal resorts of Tuscany and the lakes of Lombardy. The range covers clinical longevity programs at Palace Merano and Palazzo Fiuggi, alpine wellness at the Lefay and Adler resorts, and advanced Chenot protocols at L'Albereta on Lake Iseo.

What makes Italy distinctive is that the wellness always sits inside a broader culture of beauty, food, and landscape. Even the most medical programs here come with exceptional cuisine, remarkable architecture, and settings that make the stay feel like a privilege rather than a prescription. We have tested every property on this page and can help you navigate the options based on your health goals, your travel style, and which part of Italy you want to experience.

From thermal traditions to longevity science

Italy has a wellness history that stretches back to the Roman thermae. Thermal bathing, volcanic muds, and mineral springs have been part of Italian health culture for two thousand years. That tradition never disappeared. It evolved. And in the past decade, a new generation of Italian wellness entrepreneurs has layered modern medical science on top of it.

Palace Merano was one of the first to make that leap. Founded by Henri Chenot, it pioneered the combination of Eastern diagnostics with Western medicine in an Italian luxury setting. Palazzo Fiuggi, backed by the Forte Village group, went further: a full medical clinic embedded in a former papal estate, offering oncology support, metabolic programs, and regenerative medicine alongside its famous thermal waters.

South Tyrol has become the epicentre of this movement. Villa Eden in Merano, the Adler properties across the Dolomites, Lefay in the mountains above Lake Garda, and Aki Plose near Bressanone all sit within a few hours of each other. The region combines Austrian clinical precision (South Tyrol was part of Austria until 1919) with Italian warmth and culinary excellence. It is a combination no other country replicates.

Three regions, three wellness experiences

South Tyrol and the Dolomites are where you go for structured medical or detox programs in an alpine setting. Palace Merano, Villa Eden, and Espace Chenot at L'Albereta offer clinical depth. The Adler family of resorts (Thermae, Sicilia, Balance, Lodge Alpe) and Lefay Dolomiti offer a lighter wellness-resort model with strong spa facilities. Aki Plose near Bressanone sits somewhere in between, with a focus on Ayurveda and naturopathy at altitude.

The Italian Lakes bring a different atmosphere. Lefay Lago di Garda overlooks one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe. The programs focus on energy management, sleep, and longevity diagnostics. L'Albereta, home to the Espace Chenot, is on the southern end of Lake Iseo. It runs Chenot's signature detox and weight management protocols in a refined country-house setting.

Central Italy offers the thermal tradition. Palazzo Fiuggi, about an hour south of Rome, draws on the historic Fiuggi springs. Its programs are the most medically advanced in the country, covering functional medicine, oncology support, and regenerative therapies. It is also one of the most architecturally striking wellness properties anywhere in Europe.

For guests who want to combine a wellness stay with cultural travel, Italy is unbeatable. A week at Palace Merano can be paired with the Dolomites. Palazzo Fiuggi is close to Rome. Lefay Lago di Garda sits between Milan and Venice. The travel logistics are part of the appeal.

Good to know before you book

Spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October) are the best seasons. South Tyrol is spectacular in May and September. The lakes are warmest from June to September. Palazzo Fiuggi is comfortable year-round but at its best in spring and autumn when Rome is also pleasant.

Italy is well connected by air. Milan is the best hub for the lakes and South Tyrol. Verona works for Lake Garda. Rome is the gateway to Palazzo Fiuggi and the thermal south. Internal transfers are generally 60 to 120 minutes from the nearest airport.

Pricing in Italy covers a wide range. The Adler resorts and Lefay properties start around EUR 2,000 to 3,000 per week with wellness programs. Villa Eden and Palace Merano sit in the EUR 4,000 to 7,000 range for clinical programs. Palazzo Fiuggi is the most premium, with medical programs starting around EUR 6,000 to 10,000. Italy offers some of the best value in Europe for the level of luxury and cuisine included.

One thing to note: Italy has the widest spread of any country on our platform, from resort-style spa hotels to serious medical clinics. Choosing the right one matters. Tell us your objectives and we will narrow the list to two or three perfect matches.

Our expert's take

Victoire's take on Italy

Italy is the country where I have the hardest time choosing. Twelve partners, and I genuinely love most of them. If someone asks me for a single recommendation, I start with their objective. Detox? Palace Merano or Chenot at L'Albereta. Medical longevity? Palazzo Fiuggi, without question. A beautiful wellness week with great food? Lefay Lago di Garda or Adler Thermae.

South Tyrol is my favourite region for repeat visits. The air, the mountains, the food, and the quality of the properties are consistently excellent. Villa Eden in particular is a hidden gem for guests who want a personal, medically serious stay without the scale of a large resort.

I also think Italy is the best country for first-time wellness travellers. The culture is welcoming, the food makes the dietary component enjoyable rather than punitive, and the settings are so beautiful that even the most skeptical partner will have a good time. That matters more than people think.
